光纖連接器，是光纖與光纖之間進行可拆卸（活動）連接的器件，它把光纖的兩個端面精密對接起來，以使發射光纖輸出的光能量能大限度地耦合到接收光纖中去，用于大容量高速傳輸系統時，還要求反射小。并使由于其介入光鏈路而對系統造成的影響減到小，這是光纖連接器的基本要求。在一定程度上，光纖連接器影響了光傳輸系統的可靠性和各項性能。FC類型的連接器，采用的陶瓷插針的對接端面是平面接觸方式（FC）。此類連接器結構簡單，操作方便，制作容易，但光纖端面對微塵較為敏感，且容易產生菲涅爾反射，提高回波損耗性能較為困難。后來，對該類型連接器做了改進，采用對接端面呈球面的插針（PC），而外部結構沒有改變，使得插入損耗和回波損耗性能有了較大幅度的提高。用于光纖間可重復插拔的連接器件，也稱光纖活動接頭。主要性能參數（及典型值）有：插入損耗（<0.5dB）、插拔重復性及連接器間的互換性（變化量500次）
